Leave of Absence

Undergraduate students may request to take a leave of absence from enrollment in courses for up to two consecutive semesters.  Any student considering a leave of absence but who is enrolled in a major that requires an application or has cohorts should seek advising with the major department before filing for a leave of absence. 

Withdrawal from the University

Undergraduate students planning on leaving APU for more than two consecutive semesters. If you plan on later returning to APU here is more information on our Re-enrollment Policy in the Academic Catalog.

-  If this form is initiated before the Last Day to Drop Classes, as defined by the Academic Calendar, all your classes will be dropped and charges reversed. 

-  If this form is initiated after the Last Day to Drop Classes, as defined by the Academic Calendar, your academic record will reflect the grade of "W" in all your courses and I am responsible for charges as explained in the financial portion of the Academic Catalog

Exceptions are considered on a case-by-case basis. You must provide a thorough explanation of the circumstances supporting your request and details regarding your attendance. This request will be reviewed by the Office of the Registrar. 

* If you are requesting an extension to your Leave of Absence past two consecutive semesters you will need to request an exception.

Follow the steps below to see if these courses will transfer to APU:

1. Create an account on Transferology.

2. Select "Will My Courses Transfer?" or "Find a Replacement Course."

3. Use the search functions to find the course.

4. Verify that the course will satisfy an APU requirement.

5. If the course is not listed on Transferology, check our Articulation Agreements for pre-approved courses from community colleges.

6. If the course does not exist in the above options, obtain the course syllabus and complete a Transfer Credit and Course Substitution Form.

7. If Approved complete the course with a "C-" or higher.

8. After you complete the course, send an official transcript to the Student Services Center.



FINANCIAL AID POLICY

If you have stopped attending classes while the semester was still in session, this affects your financial aid for the semester.

The government and the state requires Title IV and state aid (grants and loans from the federal/state government) to be calculated based on how many days you attended class.

You are eligible for a percentage of “earned” Title IV aid (based on the government’s formula).

Reasons you may want to decline Financial Aid:

* If you are transferring to another school for this term you may want to use the Financial aid at your new school.

* If you have grants like Cal Grant or Pell Grant there is limited eligibility and a whole semester’s worth of eligibility will be used.

* There is a limit to how much you can borrow in Direct Loans. A whole semester’s worth of Subsidized Loan eligibility will be used.
