Traditional Undergraduate students may request to take a leave of absence from enrollment in courses for up to two consecutive semesters (Fall/Spring only; Summer not included).

Professional Undergraduate and Graduate students may request to take a leave of absence from their program for a minimum of two consecutive terms/semesters (Fall/Spring/Summer included) and a maximum of two years. All students considering a leave of absence should seek advising with the program department before filing for a leave of absence.

For more information, refer to the Leave of Absence policies in the Academic Catalog based on your academic career:

Withdrawal from the University

Traditional Undergraduate students who plan on leaving APU for more than two consecutive semesters (Fall/Spring only; Summer not included) must complete a University Withdrawal.

3. Current Semester - Late Class Withdrawal: Initiated AFTER the last day to withdraw from that term.  Please refer to the Academic Calendar.

Please reference list provided above.
Do you plan on taking coursework at another College/University while on your Leave of Absence?*

Follow the steps below to see if these courses will transfer to APU (Bachelor's degree students ONLY):

1. Create an account on Transferology.com.

2. Select "Will My Courses Transfer?" or "Find a Replacement Course."

3. Use the search functions to find the course.

4. Verify that the course will satisfy an APU requirement.

5. If the course is not listed on Transferology, check our Articulation Agreements for pre-approved courses from community colleges.

6. If the course does not exist in the above options, obtain the course syllabus and complete a Transfer Credit and Course Substitution Form.

7. If Approved, complete the course with a "C-" or higher.

8. After you complete the course, send an official transcript to the Student Services Center.

Review information on Transferring Professional Undergraduate Courses to see if these courses will transfer to APU (Bachelor's degree students ONLY).

FINANCIAL AID POLICY

  • If you have stopped attending classes while the semester was still in session, this affects your financial aid for the semester.
  • The government and the state requires Title IV and state aid (grants and loans from the federal/state government) to be calculated based on how many days you attended class.
  • You are eligible for a percentage of “earned” Title IV aid (based on the government’s formula).

Do you wish to decline your Financial Aid for the semester(s) indicated above?*

Reasons you may want to decline Financial Aid:

  • If you are transferring to another school for this term, you may want to use the Financial Aid at your new school.
  • If you have grants like Cal Grant or Pell Grant, there is limited eligibility and a whole semester’s worth of eligibility will be used.
  • There is a limit to how much you can borrow in Direct Loans. A whole semester's work of loan eligibility will be used.

Our Student Account Specialist can help answer any questions you might have. You can reach them at 626-815-2020 or ssc@apu.edu.
